Welcome use cases
The platform exists to make privacy-preserving phone-number use practical. The following are explicitly welcome:
- Two-factor authentication on services where you do not want to register your personal number.
- Multi-account management on services where you legitimately operate multiple accounts (developer testing, regional storefronts, QA work).
- Regional access — travellers, expats, and users in regions where a service requires a local number.
- Account recovery and password reset on accounts where you have lost access to the original number.
- QA and load testing of SMS-dependent flows you build.
- Operational privacy — keeping work and personal numbers separate; reducing exposure to data breaches and SIM-swap attacks.
Prohibited use
The following are prohibited and will result in immediate account termination, forfeiture of any remaining wallet balance, and (where applicable) cooperation with law enforcement:
- Fraud — impersonation, financial fraud, payment fraud, social-engineering scams, romance scams.
- Phishing or credential harvesting — using a number to receive SMS for accounts you do not own or do not have authorisation to access.
- Harassment, stalking, doxxing, hate speech, threats of violence, child sexual abuse material — categorically prohibited under any framing.
- Spam — using rentals or virtual numbers to operate bulk-SMS spam, robocalls, or smishing campaigns.
- Circumventing legitimate bans — verifying replacement accounts on services that have banned you for a violation of those services' own terms.
- Operating sanctions-evading transactions or other activities that would breach OFAC, EU, UK, or equivalent restrictions.
Enforcement
AUP enforcement is reactive (in response to complaints from third parties or the upstream provider) and proactive (anomaly detection on order patterns and chargeback velocity). We err toward terminating accounts in close calls — the cost of a wrongful termination is a refund of the unused wallet balance; the cost of letting an abuser run is real harm to a real person.
If you believe your account was terminated in error, contact support within 30 days and we will review.
Reporting abuse
To report a number issued by smsactivator.io being used for prohibited activity, email abuse@smsactivator.io with the number, the destination service, and a description of the activity. We respond within one business day and act within three.
Cooperation with law enforcement
We cooperate with valid, narrowly-scoped legal requests from law-enforcement agencies in jurisdictions where we are subject to compulsion. We push back on overbroad requests. We publish the cooperation count in a transparency note when applicable.
